U.S. Open 2024: The Brooks-Bryson beef is long over but this congratulatory tweet is still a WILD sight
We've come a long, looooong way since Kiawah Island.
It was three years ago at the 2021 PGA Championship when we all witnessed the eye roll seen 'round the world, when Brooks Koepka, in contention yet again at a major, had to stop his interview with Golf Channel's Todd Lewis when he heard the sound of Bryson DeChambeau's spikes click-clacking on the pavement. It was the moment the Brooks vs. Bryson "beef" reached its peak.
But time heals all wounds. In due time, the beef was squashed, as both players joined the LIV Golf circuit and became rich beyond their wildest imagination. That makes it much easier to get over your differences, especially now that they were on the same "side," so to speak.
Still, it's a shocking sight to see them get along, just like they seemed to do last year when paired together at the 2023 PGA Championship on Saturday. Later that summer, they even posted a picture together, complete with two gigantic smiles.
On Sunday at Pinehurst, DeChambeau got one major closer to Koepka, claiming his second U.S. Open title in shocking fashion over Rory McIlroy. While he's still three shy of Brooksy, he is now part of a very elite club that Koepka is also a part of - the multi-U.S. Open champ club. Koepka welcomed him in on Twitter with a congratulatory message. If you showed us this three years ago, we would have said it was photoshopped:
With a pic of the two hugging it out? 2024 is a strange time. Like we said, time heals all wounds, as does lots and lots of money. Emphasis on the latter.
